Stocking a great bar takes more than just spirits—these classic bottles will open up a whole new world of cocktails you can mix at home!

dewar's highlander honeyA couple week’s ago, Dewar’s announced the release of Dewar’s Highlander Honey. This new product marries Dewar’s White Label Blended Scotch with locally-sourced honey harvested near the Dewar’s distillery in Aberfeldy, Scotland. To create Dewar’s Highlander Honey, Master Blender Stephanie Macleod places the honey into a mesh pouch, and then infuses it into Dewar’s White Label. The blend is then filtered through oak cask wood chips.

Dewar’s is the latest major whiskey player to release a honeyed expression. Bushmills Irish Honey was introduced last year, with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey and Wild Turkey American Honey coming before it. It seems a popular game plan these days to create gateway products — products that may not appeal to the brand’s base, but will broaden the brand’s appeal to less discerning drinkers.

It’s interesting to note that Dewar’s Highlander Honey does not claim to be Scotch. It’s simply the byproduct of blending Scotch with honey, which gives it a category all its own.

How does it taste? We’ll let you know soon. But for now —

“Dewar’s Highlander Honey delivers fantastic notes of honey, but still retains the treasured characteristics of the original blend, which is renowned for its complex taste profile and its unparalleled smoothness,” says Stephanie Macleod, Master Blender for DEWAR’S. “By using Dewar’s White Label as the core for Dewar’s Highlander Honey, the infusion process builds on the already present honey aromas found in the blend and creates an exceptionally well-rounded and harmonious taste profile…”

According to the company, Dewar’s Highlander Honey is just the first release in the new “Highlander” line. So down the road, we should expect to see additional expressions of Dewar’s infused with natural flavors.
