The Vertigo

Averna is one of the more popular amaros in the world, and one you can find behind any quality cocktail bar. It’s distilled from a secret blend of flowers, herbs, dried fruits, spices and licorice, which makes for a richly textured Italian liqueur that can be consumed straight, over ice or mixed into cocktails. Here, we’re creating a simple drink composed of Averna, lemon and ginger beer. Because of Averna’s complex, bittersweet profile, there’s a lot going on here, flavor wise, despite the small ingredient list.

The Vertigo
  1. In a highball glass, add Averna and lemon juice over ice.
  2. Top with ginger beer, and garnish with lemon wheels.
