Halloween Cocktails and Other Scary Booze

zombie tiki drinkHalloween is nearly upon us, which means kids everywhere will be tromping through neighborhoods angling for candy. Some adults choose to dutifully hand out treats or attend parties, while others turn off the lights, turn on the sprinklers and board themselves inside with a stocked liquor cabinet.  For the latter set, here are a few Halloween cocktail recipes to get you through the night.

Corpse Reviver #2

1 ounce gin
1 ounce Cointreau
1 ounce Lillet Blanc
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
2 drops absinthe or pastis

Shake all ingredients with ice, and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry.

Bacardi Scorpion

2 parts Bacardi Superior Rum
1 part Cognac
2 parts fresh orange juice
½ part orgeat syrup
1 part fresh lemon juice

Shake all ingredients with ice, then strain into a highball or Collins glass over fresh ice. Garnish with a sprig of mint.


1 teaspoon brown sugar
1 ounce fresh lemon juice
1 ounce gold rum
1 ounce 151 proof rum
1 ounce white rum
1 ounce unsweetened pineapple juice
1 ounce fresh lime juice
1 ounce passion fruit syrup
1 dash Angostura Bitters

Dissolve brown sugar in lemon juice. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker with crushed ice and shake well. Pour into a collins glass, and garnish with a sprig of mint.

Honorable mentions include El Diablo and Hemingway’s Death in the Afternoon, which combines absinthe with Champagne.  Or even simpler, just drink some snake wine. That stuff will surely do the trick.
