Drinking with Dad: Father’s Day Cocktails

Nothing says “I appreciate you” on Father’s Day like a good cocktail. So this year, skip the gift card, tie or golf balls for something Dad really wants: booze that he’s not buying.

These Father’s Day cocktails are tried-and-true, dad-approved drinks sure to make this Father’s Day more memorable than last year – or any year – when booze wasn’t present.

Old Fashioned

2 ounces rye whiskey or bourbon
2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
1 sugar cube

Muddle sugar and bitters with a small splash of water. Add whiskey and stir. Add a couple good ice cubes and stir again until cold.

For an interesting twist, try making your old fashioned with apple brandy in place of whiskey.

2 oz. gin
1 oz. fino sherry
1 dash orange bitters

Stir all ingredients with ice, and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a lemon twist.

1.5 oz gin
3/4 oz sweet vermouth
3/4 oz Campari

Stir all ingredients with ice, then strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange twist.

Morning Glory

1 oz rye whiskey
1 oz Cognac
1 bar spoon orange curaçao
1 bar spoon simple syrup
1 bar spoon absinthe
2 dashes Angostura bitters
Club soda

Stir all ingredients except club soda with ice, then strain into an ice-filled glass. Add a splash of club soda and garnish with a lemon peel.

You have to include the martini. Every guy wants to believe he’s at least a little bit James Bond.

It would be a worthy addition indeed, as long as it’s stirred. James Bond always got that one backwards.
