This prohibition-era cocktail was first served at the Detroit Athletic Club to great acclaim. But following its short-lived success, it faded into obscurity for decades before making a recent resurgence in some of the better cocktail bars across the country.
On top of gin, the Last Word uses equal measures of Green Chartreuse, a 110 proof liqueur composed of 132 herbal extracts, Maraschino, a bittersweet cherry liqueur, and fresh lime juice. On paper it seems that the strong flavors of Chartreuse and Maraschino might fight for attention, resulting in the drink’s death. But fear not: it all comes together beautifully.
The Last Word
