A Tequila-Spiked Cocktail for Day of the Dead

If you’re nursing a Halloween hangover, there’s no better way to get moving than with a cocktail. And since today happens to be Day of the Dead, or Dia de los Muertos, you’ve got a built-in excuse for doing just that. We’re naturally going with tequila to observe this Mexican holiday meant to honor the dead and celebrate life. So below: a delicious Day of the Dead cocktail from Alex Valencia, the co-founder and beverage director of NYC’s La Contenta. See below, drink up and celebrate accordingly.

THE MAYAN

2 oz coconut flake-infused Jose Cuervo Tradicional
1/2 oz agave nectar
1/2 oz corn purée
3/4 oz fresh lime juice
5 drops habanero-infused tequila

For coconut infusion, place 250 grams of unsweetened coconut flakes into 750 ml Cuervo Tradicional Silver Tequila, and infuse for 24 hrs. Strain before use. For the cocktail, shake all ingredients with ice, then double strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a tajin rim and coconut flakes.
