Rye Whiskey Cocktails to Drink this Fall

There’s never a bad time to drink rye whiskey, but the cooler whether makes the warming, spicy qualities of rye even more enjoyable. So it’s this time of year that we tend to break out bottles of rye with abandon. In this case, we’ve got four cocktails from a couple of rye whiskey stalwarts: Wild Turkey and Russel’s Reserve.

New York Sour

New York Sour
by Tom Macy, Clover Club

2 oz Wild Turkey 101 Rye
.75 oz lemon juice
.75 oz simple syrup
.25 oz orange juice (optional)
.5 oz red wine

Add all ingredients to shaker. Shake and strain into a chilled coupe glass. Float 1/2 oz red wine over the top.

golden rye cocktail

Golden Rye

2 oz Wild Turkey 101 Rye
.5 oz Suze
.25 oz Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao
1 barspoon simple syrup
1 dash celery bitters
1 dash orange bitters

Stir all ingredients in a mixing glass. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube. Garnish with a lemon swath.

kentucky sunset rye cocktail

Kentucky Sunset

1.5 oz Russell’s Reserve Single Barrel Rye
.5 oz Yellow Chartreuse
.5 oz simple syrup
.5 oz fresh lemon juice
.5 oz fresh orange juice
2 Blackberries
Mint

Combine all ingredients in a shaker. Double strain in rocks glass with pebble ice. Garnish with mint spring and blackberry.

chamomile old fashioned

Chamomile Old Fashioned

2 oz Russell’s Reserve 6 Year Old Rye
.25 oz chamomile syrup
3 dashes chamomile tincture

Stir with ice and strain on fresh ice in a rocks glass. Spray with chamomile tincture.
