red light negroni

This continues Negroni Week, an annual celebration presented by Imbibe Magazine and Campari that champions this great cocktail while raising money for charitable causes around the world. We’ll be participating with a week of Negroni coverage.

All over the country, bars and restaurants are serving up Negronis–both classic and not-classic. One of the latter is the Red Light Negroni, which is composed of equal parts Bols Genever, Campari and sweet vermouth. And, as you can see, it’s served inside a hollowed out light bulb–a tip of the cap to Amsterdam’s Red Light District (Bols was founded there some 440 years ago). So here you’ve got the usual proportions, but that genever replaces the dry elements of gin with some malty sweetness that still plays nicely with the Campari and vermouth.

Bonus points if you’ve got a red light bulb at home. If not, try mixing one up in an actual glass. Or even better, let the pros make one for you. The Red Light Negroni will be available at several bars around the country including Midnight Rambler (Dallas), Maison Premiere (Brooklyn), Belcampo Meat Co (Santa Monica) and Catahoula Bar and Three Muses, both in New Orleans.

Just look at that handsome cocktail above. And then make one for yourself.
