Earlier this month, word came that country star Kenny Chesney had launched a new rum brand. Dubbed Blue Chair Bay, the lineup consists of a white rum, a coconut rum and a coconut spiced rum. Chesney is just the latest celebrity to get into the spirits market, with others including George Clooney (Casamigos Tequila), Ron Jeremy (Ron de Jeremy Rum) and Justin Timerlake (901 Tequila), to name a few.

To produce the rum, Chesney headed to Barbados and enlisted master blender Mike Booth at one of the Caribbean’s oldest rum distilleries. Rather than simply put his name behind the brand, Chesney was very hands on with the creation process. After lots of tasting and tweaking, they eventually created each of the three rum expressions. Chesney calls the coconut rum his personal favorite, while the white rum has already received a score of 90 from the Ultimate Spirits Challenge.

The Blue Chair Bay website includes a handful of cocktail recipes. Some seem solid (one drink calls for white rum, orgeat, green chartreuse and lime), while others seem dubious. Like the recipes calling for Corona light and energy drinks.

Blue Chair Bay Rum is rolling out nationwide this May. And it will be one of the drink sponsors on Chesney’s concert tour this summer, so he’s already got a built in platform to start selling bottles. All three rums are expected to retail for $18 – $19.
