goral vodkaGoral Vodka hails from Slovakia, making this our first brush with Slovakian vodka. To make the stuff, Master Distiller Ján Krak starts with Durum wheat and a seven column still. The vodka is blended with water from the underground springs of the Tatra Mountains and filtered seven times through zeolite, activated carbon and diamonds. Hence the “77” label you’ll find on the bottle.

We’ve gotten our hands on the original Goral Vodka Master, an unflavored vodka, but the company also produces a few flavors, including grapefruit, lime and cranberry.

TASTING NOTES

Goral Vodka is clean and light on the nose, with mineral aromas mixed with some mild pepper. Take a sip, and the medium-bodied spirit moves a bit sweeter, with notes of vanilla cream and toasted sugar up front, followed by hints of citrus and spice. All that leads to a dry, mineral, almost chalk-like finish.

This is a pretty easy-going vodka with a solid balance of flavors. Subtle flavors, but flavors nonetheless.
