fat trout scotch whiskyThe Fat Trout Blended Scotch Whisky hails from the Speyside Region of Scotland, where it’s produced by Ian Macleod Distillers. The three year old spirit is comprised of about 30 different single malts from Speyside, Islay and Highlands.

The whisky pours bright amber in the glass. It’s full of fresh malts and heather on the nose, with some fruit and mild smoke. Drink up for a light-to-medium body and flavors ranging from orange and sweet grains to darker fruits and smoke. There’s an interesting sherry note, too. It finishes light and easy with a bit of grain spice lingering until the very end.

Fat Trout is nothing fancy. It’s youthful and a bit rough around the edges at times, but for a modestly-priced three year old blend it’s very drinkable. It’s the kind of whisky you break out around a campfire or when you’re day drinking on the lake. Trout fishing, perhaps.
