7 Valentine’s Day Cocktails You’ll Actually Want to Drink

Like it or not, Valentine’s Day is nearly upon us. And naturally, some kind of cocktail is in order, whether you’re mixing drinks at home to impress a date, spending your night behind a bar or even just sitting at home with a well-stocked liquor cabinet and a perfectly curated Netflix queue. The only problem is that most Valentine’s Day cocktails are cloying, red-hued glasses of liquid candy, and therefore not fit for human consumption. So to ensure that your holiday drinking is as fruitful as possible this year, we’ve rounded up seven of the best new Valentine’s Day drinks for your consideration.

1 oz Jägermeister
1 oz Aperol
1 oz Brovo Amaro
2 dashes chocolate molé bitters

Stir first three ingredients with ice, then strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Garnish with chocolate molé bitters and a grapefruit peel.

LOVE OF A LIFETHYME

1 oz Patrón Silver
.5 oz lemon juice
.25 oz pomegranate syrup
.25 oz honey
2 dashes Peychaud’s bitters
Prosecco
Absinthe

Shake first five ingredients with ice. Then strain into an absinthe-rinsed coupe, top with a float of Prosecco and garnish with a fresh thyme sprig.

KISS ME COCKTAIL

1 oz Jim Beam Black
.5 oz Strawberry Schnapps Liqueur
1 oz Passion Fruit Juice
Sparkling Wine

Shake first three ingredients with ice, and strain into a chilled champagne flute. Top with sparkling wine, and garnish with a lemon peel.

SMOKY PALOMA

1.5 oz Sombra Mezcal
1 oz fresh grapefruit juice
.5 oz fresh lime juice
.5 oz sugar
1 pinch salt

Shake with ice, strain into a collins glass and garnish with a grapefruit wedge.

1.5 oz D’USSÉ VSOP Cognac
.5 oz Benedictine
.5 oz fresh lemon juice
.5 oz grenadine
Martini Prosecco

Gently shake first four ingredients with ice, then strain into a champagne flute. Top with Prosecco and garnish with a lemon spiral.

2 oz La Nina Espadín Mezcal
1.5 oz infused Pavan*
.5 oz lemon juice
1 oz ginger beer

For infused Pavan* blend 2 orange bell peppers and 5 thai chili peppers with 750ml of Pavan, then fine strain. Keep refrigerated. To make the cocktail, shake all ingredients except ginger beer and strain over fresh ice into rocks glass. Top with ginger beer, and garnish with a Thai chili pepper.

VALENTINE’S VESPER

.75 oz vodka
-.75 oz gin
-.75 oz Lillet Blanc
-.75 oz pomegranate liqueur

Shake all ingredients with ice. Strain into a coupe and garnish with a rose petal.
