4th of July Cocktails

The 4th of July – yet another excuse to drink cocktails, and another reason for spirits brands to disseminate some holiday-themed drinks. Celebrate your independence and your right to imbibe with these festive cocktails and American classics.

Courtesy of Bombay Sapphire, the American Collins is as refreshing as it is patriotic.

1 1/2 oz Bombay Sapphire Gin
3/4 oz simple syrup
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
4 bing cherries, pitted
8 blueberries
club soda

Muddle blueberries and cherries in a collins glass. Add lemon juice, sugar and gin, then stir. Top with club soda, and garnish with a lemon wheel.

The Bronx Cocktail

Fresh orange juice is a must in this drink. It just doesn’t taste right without it.

2 ounces gin
1/4 oz sweet vermouth
1/4 oz dry vermouth
1 ounce fresh orange juice
1 dash orange bitters

Shake all ingredients with ice, and strain into a cocktail glass.

The Manhattan

Moving onto another borough, The Manhattan is about as classic as drinks get. Featuring the iconic American spirit rye whiskey, it’s simple, stout and delicious.

2 oz rye whiskey
1 oz sweet vermouth
2 dashes Angostura Bitters

Stir all ingredients with ice, and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry.

Firecracker

This drink comes courtesy of Kanon Organic Vodka and was created by bartender Demetrios Saites at NYC’s The Fat Radish.

2 oz Kanon Organic Vodka
1 oz fresh grapefruit juice
1 oz lime syrup
1 oz simple syrup
Pinch of fresh basil
1/2 teaspoon chopped chilis

Muddle basil and chilis with simple syrup. Combine ingredients, shake and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a basil leaf.

The Bald Eagle

This very tart drink gets the nod for its name alone.

2 oz reposado tequila
1 oz fresh grapefruit juice
1/2 oz cranberry juice
1/4 oz lemon juice
1/4 oz lime juice
1/2 oz simple syrup

Shake all ingredients with ice, and strain into a cocktail glass.
