Three weeks into the new year, and we’re still in detox mode. But, you know, a reasonable detox that involves plenty of good drinks–just smarter ones. We’re talking healthy cocktails that utilize fresh, vitamin-packed fruits, vegetables and roots like carrots, beets and turmeric. That way we can start our morning (evening, we mean evening…) with a stiff drink while feeling good about our life choices.
So here are three healthy juice-based cocktails from New York bar, The Garret East. Each is packed with a full portion of booze, sure, but also sporting a dose of vitality via some nutrient dense ingredients. 1.5 oz Rhum Barbancourt Blanc
.5 oz Rhum Barbancourt 3 Star
1 oz beet juice
.5 oz almond orgeat
.5 oz lime juice
Pour all ingredients into a shaker and shake. Serve neat in a juice glass with a half vinegar salt rim.
1.5 oz Medley Bros Bourbon
1.5 oz carrot juice
.5 oz lemon juice
.25 oz smoked maple syrup
1-2 tarragon leaves in the shaker
1 dash habanero bitters
Shake and serve in a juice glass with a small rim of vinegar salt.
1 oz Blanco tequila
1 oz Tumeric-infused Dolin Blanc
.75 oz lime juice
.5 oz Little Jumbo Ginger Brew
.25 oz Salmiakki Dala Scandinavian Fernet
Add all ingredients to a shaker and shake. Strain in a Collins glass over crushed or pebbled ice. Garnish with raw ginger.
